General Announcements Approval

spacer03Home and School Association, St.Thomas More Catholic School

The following guidelines should be used to approve messages to the stmhsa-general group. Since all the cases can never be explicitly covered, the general guidelines need interpretation on a message by message basis with the best interest of all taken into consideration.

What may be posted?

The stmhsa-general group should be used for general announcements of interest to the entire school community.

Keep the following in mind concerning any approval:

  • Is the information potentially relevant to the whole school community or a large subset of the school community which cannot be reached under any existing stmhsa group or a reasonable combination of groups.
  • Is the information or associated links or attachments in line with our Acceptable Use or Privacy Policies.
  • Does the information include the accurate and necessary contact information so that individuals know who to contact for more info, and how to contact them.
  • Does the information support the Purpose statements in the HSA by-laws?
  • Where possible, the volume of announcements should be reduced by grouping small individual messages or summarizing detailed discussions.

Who may approve messages?

The following approval priorities are in place:

  1. The school principal or someone acting on behalf of the school principal may, at any time, send messages and/or approve them.
  2. The primary or default general announcements group moderator is the HSA President. Unless the HSA president notifies the other group moderators that they will be unavailable, they will review and approve messages to the general group.
  3. In the notified absence of the HSA president either the school principal, or the HSA vice president may act as group moderator and proceed according to their best judgment.
  4. If by midnight of the day the message was submitted, the HSA president has not approved a message, either the school principal or the HSA vice president may proceed with approval according to their best judgment.
  5. If after 24 hours, neither the HSA president, or the School Principal, or the HSA vice president have acted, then the stmhsa groups moderator may proceed with approval according to their best judgment.
